Shared reading vocab 4/9



Remnant - a part or quantity that is left after the greater part has been used, removed, or destroyed.

Protest - a statement or action expressing disapproval of or objection to something.

Oppose - disagree with and attempt to prevent, especially by argument.

Hornet - a large, fairly docile wasp which is typically red and yellow or red and black and usually nests in hollow trees.

Surge - a sudden powerful forward or upward movement, especially by a crowd or by a natural force such as the tide.

Chagrin - feel distressed or humiliated


The last remnants of the derelict place gave it a ghostly presence.

Protesting against King Logan was a catastrophic mistake.

The British held up signs, opposing Donald Trump’s visit to the country.
